Policies are listed to answer any questions that you may have about moving and exceptions to coverage.

Basic Limited Liability Protection

Whether you move your items yourself, or hire a professional mover, the possibility of scratching, denting, or chipping a piece of furniture is always present.  The most that we can do is identify the items most prone to damage and take extra care when handling them.  Even then, damage could result.

We offer basic limited liability protection (BLLP) as required by federal law to protect your items during transit.  BLLP is not insurance, but rather valuation coverage.  If an item is damaged during the move, you will receive up to $0.60 per pound per damaged article.  Unfortunately, we do not offer full coverage. If you feel that the BLLP coverage is inadequate, please obtain full coverage insurance from a third party.

  • Personal Items – Please prepare to transport your jewelry, money, important papers, medicines, purses, wallets, weapons and any other personal valuables.  We are not responsible for the loss of personal items.
  • Electronic Items – We have no way of knowing if items were functional before the move and therefore, cannot accept responsibility for how they operate following the move.  This includes but is not limited to TVs, stereo systems, computers, copiers, printers, grandfather clocks, tablets, phones, etc.
  • Lamps – Unboxed lamps must be moved within a personal vehicle as they are not covered in the event of damage.
  • Art, Mirrors, Glass & Marble – These must be wrapped in cardboard and securely taped in order to be transported.  These items are loaded at the supervisor’s discretion.
  • Flat Screen TVs – These must be boxed to be covered. Coverage does not include electronic functionality.  TVs under 32″ must be moved within your personal vehicle.  If a client chooses to move a TV without a box, coverage is waived on the item.
  • Pressed Wood Furniture – These items are not covered under any circumstances due to the original instability of the furniture.  We do not provide disassembly and assembly for pressed wood furniture.  Please prepare to do this yourself.
  • PBO (Packed by Owner) – Items that were packed into boxes by the owner are not covered in the event of damage except for in cases of damage due to the negligence of the crew. It is best to use bubble wrap or packing paper to wrap items to avoid damage.
  • Major Appliances – Small scratches and dents on major appliances are not covered.  Front-load washers that are moved without the bolts to secure the drum are not covered in the event of damage.
  • Mattresses – Mattresses/box springs must be moved within mattress bags to ensure safe transport.  We are not responsible for damages that result from items being moved without the protective bags.  We do not supply mattress bags on moving day.  Please purchase these prior to moving day.  The crew can assist with placing the mattress or box spring within the protective bag.

What About Coverage for Household Surfaces?

We will try at all costs to avoid causing damage to household surfaces including but not limited to walls, floors, exterior surfaces and handrails.  The supervisor will give notification in the event that there is a risk that a requested task may result in damage.

It is the client’s responsibility to ensure that household surfaces are properly covered and protected.  If damage results due to the negligence of the crew, household surfaces are covered at up to $300.00 per move.

Floors
  • Carpet – To best protect carpet in high traffic areas, the use of carpet shield (see below) is recommended. Carpet shield is a sticky film that is placed onto the carpet in high traffic areas to avoid dirt and debris getting into the carpet.
  • Hardwood Floors – To best protect hardwood floors, it is best to tape thin cardboard in high traffic areas to avoid scratches and damage to the floors. It is best to use painter’s tape to avoid a sticky residue being left on the floor. Be sure to wait the required cure time for your hardwood floors prior to booking your move to avoid damages.
  • Felt Pads & Sliders – Felt pads or sliders are required on the bottom of the legs of furniture to prevent damage to the flooring.  If damage results due to the absence of felt pads/sliders, we will accept no liability for scratches or dents on the floors.

Unfortunately, the movers are unable to wear shoe coverings/booties as they create a safety hazard.  Please install floor protection prior to the crew’s arrival if you wish to do so.

Walls
  • Marks – Small scratches and scuffs on sheetrock can occur at times during moves. It is best to tape thin cardboard to the wall in high traffic areas to avoid such damages. It is best to use painter’s tape to avoid a sticky residue being left on the wall. For small scuffs and scratches, it is best to lightly scrub the area with a magic eraser.
  • Holes – Holes resulting from the negligence of the crew will be covered and repaired. Holes resulting from a requested task that the supervisor indicated would likely cause damage is the customer’s responsibility.

We use ratchet straps to secure the load to ensure no shifting during transit.

Ratchet straps (pictured) are not included. Please have at least one ratchet strap per truck/POD on-site and readily available to the crew on moving day.

Please note that we are unable to claim liability for damages resulting after the load has been completed and transported under any circumstances.

Unload-Only Moves

Unload-only moves include the crew members & dollies. This option is utilized to unload trucks, trailers or PODs on-site.
